Walpole Giants Teen Hike

A real three-day Bibbulmun Track adventure for teenagers aged 14–16.

Starting at Conspicuous Cliffs and finishing in Walpole, this 46.2 km full-pack hike takes young hikers from the Southern Ocean coastline into towering karri forest and ancient giant tingle country.

This is not a school camp or a casual day walk. Each young hiker carries their own backpack, manages their gear and takes part in the everyday routines of a genuine multiday hiking expedition.

Along the way there is time for challenge, laughter, teamwork, quiet moments and simply being away from screens and everyday pressures.

LifeTrail's Hikefulness® approach is naturally woven through the experience, encouraging young hikers to slow down, notice their surroundings and become more confident in what they can manage for themselves.

The Route

Day 1: Conspicuous Cliffs to Giants Campsite — 13.2 km
Day 2: Giants Campsite to Franklin River Campsite — 14.5 km
Day 3: Franklin River Campsite to Walpole — 18.5 km

Total distance: 46.2 km
Duration: 3 days / 2 nights
Age: 14–16 years
Hike Grade: Grade 3

The journey includes coastal walking, forest trails, remote Bibbulmun Track campsites and a visit to the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk.

Who Is This Hike For?

Young hikers do not need previous multiday hiking experience, but they do need to be ready to participate in the expedition.

They should be capable of:

  • carrying a full hiking pack of approximately 13–15 kg

  • hiking for several hours each day

  • managing their own gear and personal care

  • participating respectfully within a small group

  • being away from home and screens for three days

  • attending the two compulsory pre-hike video sessions

LifeTrail welcomes young people with different backgrounds, abilities and support needs. If you are unsure whether the hike is suitable for your young person, please contact Didier before booking.

Preparation

Preparation is part of the adventure.

Before the hike, participants attend two compulsory group video sessions with Didier. These cover equipment, food, packing, expectations, safety and preparing for life on the Bibbulmun Track.

Young hikers provide their own personal hiking equipment and food.

Safety

LifeTrail keeps groups small, with a strict maximum ratio of one guide to six young hikers.

Didier carries a satellite phone and Personal Locator Beacon on every expedition, and a safety communication system is maintained with a trusted contact at home.

Didier holds current Remote First Aid and is a volunteer member of the Denmark State Emergency Service. He has personally walked more than 3,000 km of the Bibbulmun Track, including a 68-day solo end-to-end.
